After the British captured Havana in the Seven years War, it traded the Cuban port to Spain in exchange for Florida in 1763. This map was published the following year, purporting to be a correct view of East Florida. Here is a close-up view of the peninsula and the Keys, e called the Martyr Islands. West, Matecumbe, and Largo Keys are named. The map contains many place names and indicates the lowlands in the south and hills in the north. Okeefeenokee Swamp is shown, as is a representation of the unnamed Lake Okeechobee. West Florida commences near the Apalachicola River.

This inset map appeared on a rare plan of St. Augustine based on a survey by Don Juan De Solis and is part of the collection of the Library of Congress.
