This intriguing map indicates Tegesta and the Gulf region, Cuba and Jamaica. Chicora is the name given the area of South Carolina , while the peninsula is called Tegesta (after Laet's map of 1630, #10).

The illustration depicts a Spanish shipwreck that occurred during the expedition by Franciscus de Garay to explore the Gulf in 1519. Survivors, including horses brought from Spain, struggle ashore a Gulf island.
