Johannes de Laet gives the name TEGESTA provinc. to the peninsula. The Tegesta were a tribe of Indians living on the southwest coast. The name was used in a number of later maps. Florida is used to describe a far larger region.

This influential map attempts to incorporate findings shown on the 1584 Ortelius/Chaves and the Mercator-Hondius 1606 maps of the region, and includes a mystery lake in Apalche near the mountains. A number of rivers are shown mistakenly flowing into the "Bahia dels Spiritu Santo" in the vicinity of the Mississippi delta. The banks of the Bahamas are noted as are islands off the coast of Cuba.
